Gwynne McLaughlin has been a hairstylist for over 20 years. From hair and makeup in salons, to television, fashion shows and freelance print-work.

Gwynne relocated from San Diego to Eugene and found her platform to create at Studio Mantra, her first salon.

“After working in others’ spaces for so many years, it’s a blessing to be able to create my own environment, a calm, relaxing atmosphere where creative has no boundaries.”

This has led to benefit hair/fashion shows, the first “HairArt” on ArtWalk, photo shoots, and 3^rd place in NorthWest Stylists photo shoot cover contest.

She feels it’s just the beginning for Eugene, Studio Mantra and her stylists.

Marie - Studio Mantra Hair Salon - Eugene

Marie De Ment has seven years experience with coloring, esthetics, hair styling, razor cuts, clipper cuts, natural & artificial nails as well as nail art and make-up. Starting in high school, she was working her magic on friends, family, and classmates. She has now been able to do so much more in her field including: styling for fashion shows, hair & make-up for wedding parties, hair & make-up on photo shoots as well as participating in “Hair Art” on the Eugene Art Walk. Growing up in a small town in eastern Washington she never expected to have the opportunities that she has found in Eugene. Marie has a great rapport with her clientele and it shows that she truly cares. Aside from having a close relationship with her clients she takes pride in  her work and wants everyone to be able to shine. Having a bad hair cut is like wearing an ugly dress for 3 months and that’s why you need a stylist that takes as much pride in your appearance as you do. Marie is a great listener and wants nothing more than to work with you and figure out what you want and what works for you.

Dede - Studio Mantra Hair Salon - Eugene

DeDe Young has been doing hair for over ten years in the Eugene area.  She specializes in personalizing color and hair shaping to each individual client.  She has extensive education including the Toni & Guy Hair Academy in Long Beach, CA., and has attended various hair shows in several different states. DeDe values continued education and keeping up with today’s current tools, techniques and trends. She loves it when her skills help make people feel more confident and better about themselves.

Kelly - Studio Mantra Hair Salon - Eugene

Kelly “Electreat” Meadows has been doing hair and makeup for ten years, and way more than that if you consider being born with the love of the craft. She always jokes that she came out of the womb with shears and makeup brushes. She moved to New Orleans to attend an Aveda Institute and received her license in hair, skin and nails. Also, she won an honored spot in a national competition to represent her school and perform on stage in front of 6,000 people at the global hair show for Aveda. After finishing school, she spent the next four years working in a prestigious French Quarter Aveda salon. There she grew as an artist and loved all the excitement of her day to day clients as well as participating in fashion shows, performance art exhibits, prepping musicians for shows,  fantasy hair and makeup for mardi GRAS or other costuming events, extensions and constant continuing  education in the art of hair/ makeup. Even getting flown to New York and LA to apply synthetic dredlocks on a client and doing an album cover for a jazz singer with Legendary New Orleans photographer Herman Leonard.
She also attended and completed 15 months of massage training at Blue Cliff College of massage therapy in Metairie, Louisiana. Although she currently does not practice body massage she realizes the importance of touch and gives an incredible shampoo. After hurricane Katrina and relocating back toOregon she spent a year at a Roseburg Aveda salon and had to leave Aveda finally due to the severe allergies to that product line. Again relocating to Eugene and spent the next four years at London hair studio and day spa where she received education in Wella salon professionals cutting/coloring, Bumble and Bumble, Eufora, Bare Escentuals and attended an advanced stylist cutting class at the San Francisco Vidal Sassoon academy.
She just recently switched gears to join Studio Mantra as a new resident artist and for the last two years has skated in the Emerald City Roller Girls and just got drafted to her home team, the ANDROMEDOLLS.  Beyond the excellent resume and lifelong love of the craft, Kelly has realized that looking and feeling good shouldn’t come at such a high price. Studio Mantra Hair Salon - Eugene

Studio Mantra Hair Salon – Eugene stylist has work featured on cover of NorthWest Stylist and Salon Newspaper! Creative hairstyling, beautiful haircolor and make-up, along with a gorgeous model and excellent photography contributed to a beautiful image for their June covershot.

“One of  my goals this year was to achieve this cover! Last year, in my first submission, I took third place, and Honorable mention, which gave me a basis to push my creative boundaries and put a great team of professionals together resulting in  a more noteworthy image,”states downtown Eugene salon owner, Gwynne McLaughlin.

Gwynne gives a lot of credit to local photographer, Richard Roman, for capturing the vintage feel of the modernized 1940’s style. She also wanted to give an edgy feel to the look with the make-up, but not overwhelm either the beauty of the model, nor take away from the rich haircolor.

“I am pleased to be able to represent our small city within the beauty industry and my peers on a larger scale. I am grateful for the opportunity to do so .Studio Mantra houses many talented stylists, and I hope to be able to provide them with more opportunities to push their creativity to a higher level. This is not work, its fun!”

Studio Mantra Hair Salon – Eugene’s venture to Eugene’s First Friday ArtWalk, the innovative stylists of Studio Mantra decided to go historical, with a modern twist. From the renaissance period to Victorian, the 20’s, 40’s, and 50’s, our models donned their “do’s” for the art appreciate crowd. Costuming designed specifically for this event by Mitra Chester of Deluxe and Kitsch completed their looks. Captured by photographer, Richard Roman, these stunning beauties could have been from another era, or maybe just stylishly now……
We love that the Lane Arts Council has recognized hairstyling as an art, and allowed Studio Mantra to be the forerunner of our community to present HairArt.

Hairstyling is an art… right? Gwynne McLaughlin and the stylists of Studio Mantra in Eugene, OR think it should be. So they approached the director of Eugene’s First Friday Art Walk, a monthly walking tour of galleries and businesses that showcase artists’ work, about becoming a part of the show. Studio Mantra called their contribution to the event HairArt, and McLaughlin encouraged her talented stylists to go all out. The looks they created for the evening ran the gamut from elegant to outrageous. A photo shoot of models during the event by photographer Dmitri Von Klein of Monvita Photography added an edgy fashion vibe, as well as a participatory air that ArtWalkers enjoyed. “It was kind of ‘art in progress’” says McLaughlin. “It was a great opportunity for our stylists to do some really creative work. And it was an opportunity for us to invite the community in.”
